SODALITE

The science

Sodalite is member of the silicate family of rocks & minerals, just like Quartz - SiO4 - but with additional players like Sodium (Na), Aluminum (Al), and Chloride (Cl). Sodalite is a littler heavier on the Na, Al & Cl, light on the SiO4, figuratively speaking. You’ll find that we often have plenty of silicates to talk about, because Silicates constitute 90% of Earth’s Crust. Each member of the silicate family yields information about the environment in which the rock was formed. This is also super cool, because we find silicates on our Moon and also our terrestrial planets like Mercury, Venus & Mars! We can find Sodalite associated with very deep igneous (plutonic) solidification.
