The science

Lepidolite is a silicate mineral from the ‘Mica Group’. This particular group of minerals is known for it’s platy-like appearance, also called ‘micaceous cleavage’ (aka, the particular way this group breaks when struck). These tiny layers are like a microscopic 100 layer cake that can break at each layer thanks to it’s internal crystalline structure.

Lepidolite, contains Potassium (K), Silicon (Si), Oxygen (O2), Aluminum (Al) with some crystalline variations of players like Lithium (Li), and Fluoride (F). To be honest, the chemical composition of this minerals can be ALL OVER THE PLACE. Seriously. We assume that the light-pink and lilac colors are strong indicators that this is indeed Lepidolite. However, nothing beats a good ole X-ray analysis to determine it’s true identity.

Let’s go back to those tiny layer cakes I mentioned above. Well, think about the big picture here. All those tiny layers, make up one beautiful cake, right?
